The tasks

Formal criteria: 2 pages. Times New Roman, size 12. 1,5 line spacing.
Deadline: Monday 8th November, at 08:30.
In class, you will have to comment on at least two blog posts treating other themes than the task you chose. These will be considered a part of your evaluation.
Chose ONE of the following tasks:
1)     POVERTY
You are deeply frustrated by the way the international society spends huge amounts of money on large events like the Olympic Games, the Eurovision Song Contest and various world championships, knowing that thousands of children die of hunger in Africa each day.

Based on this, write a blog post where you argue against the indifference you feel the Western world practices.

2)     CLIMATE
Write a blog post where you try to persuade your own generation to make an active change to prevent global warming. Remember to express how and why this should be done.

3)     GLOBAL POLITICS
You are a member of a UN agency called UNICEF (for children) where your group is asked to delegate 5 million dollars to one global purpose, e.g. food, water, medicine, etc.

Chose one purpose and write a blog post where you argue for your choice.

4)     HEALTH ISSUES
Your best friend is HIV-positive, and feels isolated from his/her friends and family because lately they have treated him/her differently. What would you like to say to those who are close to people with such a serious diagnosis?

Use the short story Effortless Tears by Alexander Kanengoni as a starting point and write a blog post where you defend your friend.

5)     TERRORISM/VIOLENCE
Chose a conflict that has resulted in terrorist actions, and imagine that you are a part of a terrorist network fighting for one of the sides. You did originally agree with the intentions and methods of your group, but have lately started to feel that violent actions are not the right way to achieve your goals.

Write an anonymous blog post where you explain your dilemma and argue for alternative methods in fighting for one’s case, knowing that your opinion is not supported by the rest of your group.

6)     CULTURE/RELIGION
You meet a great challenge while visiting a country with a different culture and religion than your own. The local people there offer their help and hospitality in a way that you have never before experienced, and you are amazed by their kindness.

Chose a foreign culture/society as your destination and write a travel blog post where you debate whether or not those values could be adopted in your home land.
