Global Politics

Global Politics:

UNCF is United Nations Children's Fund was created by the United Nations General Assembly; to provide emergency food and healthcare to children in countries that had been devastated. It is one of the biggest organizations. I am a member of a UN agency called UNICEF. My group is asked to delegate 5 millions to one global purpose. According to me the money should be spent on the flood in Pakistan. I would like to use money for clean water as much of the clean water has been unhygienic. Many diseases have spread around taking the lives of millions.

The 2010 Pakistan floods began in July 2010 following heavy monsoon rains in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Punjab and Baluchistan regions of Pakistan and affected the Indus River basin. Floods in Pakistan began in July 2010 after record heavy monsoon rains, the worse in the last 80 years. More than 20 million people have been affected, some homeless, others dead, which is more than the combined total of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2005 Kashmir earthquake and the 2010 Haiti earthquake. Floods continue to wreak havoc across the country in Pakistan Special Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with up to 14 million affected. More than 1,000 people have already died in flash floods in Pakistan Special Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and landslides. At least 800 people have been killed in Pakistan over the last days (summer) during floods triggered by monsoon rains. Thousands were left stranded as emergency services struggled to reach remote villages. Nearly 400 thousand have been displaced so far and the provincial government has declared a state of emergency. The torrential rains are expected to continue over the weekend. Rivers burst their banks during monsoon rains in Pakistan, washing away streets, battering a dam and killing at least 28 people in the northwest. In Pakistan, the death toll from the worst flooding the country's seen in over eighty years has reached more than 1100. Officials say that figure could rise as there are areas rescue workers have not yet been able to reach. Flooded roads and damaged bridges are hampering rescue efforts. Some 27,000 are still stranded in remote villages. The agencies are stepping up their relief efforts as thousands of people remain trapped by flood waters, awaiting rescue and evacuation by boat or helicopter. Food, clean drinking water, tents and medical services are among the priorities for survivors, many of whom have lost their homes.

Due to the flood there have been shortages of food supplies, filtered water. A lot of diseases have been spread due to unclean water. Unclean water is the issue of pupil’s death. There is growing concern over rising cases of acute diarrhea, malaria and skin diseases. A case of the deadly waterborne disease cholera was confirmed in the flood-ravaged northwest. Cholera can lead to severe dehydration and death without prompt treatment, and containing cholera outbreaks is considered a high priority following floods. "We need to arrange for clean drinking water on an emergency basis, otherwise we will have a second wave of deaths," Mr. Giuliano said. I think he is right. I am totally agreed with him Water is very necessary for live. We have to help those people, provide them clean water and save them/their lives. I have seen in news that many poor people drink water from gutter and dirty flood water which includes sand particles. What can people do, because they have no opportunity for drinking water? Although waters have receded in some areas, fresh rains could bring new destruction, making it more difficult for the relief agencies, which already are coping with few resources. Fresh flood waves swelled the River Indus, threatening nearby cities, towns and villages in southern Sind province, said Mohammed Ajmal Shad, a senior meteorologist.

I would like to denote the money for the clean water in Pakistan. I have found a lot of information about the disastrous effects of floods on Pakistan on the internet and on the news; it helped me a lot to make the decision of donating the money to Pakistan. It is one of the biggest problems on the earth according to me and I am firm about my decision of donating the money for the clean water and medicine for them who are suffering from the diseases. This money will save the lives of hundreds, who are waiting for the support and help of other countries and organization. I being the member of UNICEF would like to help the people in Pakistan.

  1. Let me first say that your text is very nice and it gives very useful information about the floods in Pakistan. I agree with you that we should supply clean water and other resources to the flood victims. But I think since you are representing UNCF you should spesifically help children and fulfill their demands like schools and clean clothes. There are plenty of other organisations that is going to be useful to other victims than children. As a member of UNCF your first priority should be children. Therefore I find this text useless since you are a member of UNCF and not mentioning children as you should be doing.

  2. I think you have made the right decision of donating the money to the flood in pakistan, as it is one of the biggest problems we should deal with. Developed countries and organizations should make the effort of helping the less developed ones.
You should have written more information about how your group is going to use the money for the effected people in pakistan.
